I wouldn’t hold your breath though. Skydeck, the fantabulous ‘your mobile IS your social network’ service that integrates with your mobile operator to get hold of a copy of your calling records, is coming to Europe. Forget the fact that you might find British Gas as your number one rated friend (after the amount of [...]
Reader meetup — moved
We were going to host a reader meetup tomorrow night. But, the Developer’s Networking event we’re hosting the night after was beginning to get confusing for many. So for the avoidance of doubt, we’ve moved the reader meetup to another upcoming date in February. Standby!
MIR heads to Manchester’s Social Media Cafe
Ricky here! Manchester has it’s own version of London’s Social Media Cafe aka Tuttle Club and on the Tuesday 3rd February 2009, meeting between 6pm to 9pm. I will be down there representing Mobile Industry Review, sadly James, Ewan, Ben and Dan will not be able to attend, however I am sure I will be able to [...]
iTunes m4p to mp3 converter/ripper?
So now I have my DRM-free iTunes files. Finally. I had to download about 1,000 tracks from the service in ‘iTunes Plus non-DRM (sort of)’ format. Theoretically I can stick them on my Nokia. But I’d like these M4P files I’ve got to be held in MP3 format. It’s just a much more portable medium [...]
Last.fm available on Android
Last.fm have released a mobile client for Android allowing users to stream their music choices. However it’s meant to show the deficiency of the G1 as a music player. Last.fm is owned by CBS.
Ofcom overruled by Competition Commission
Ofcom was planning to reduce the termination charges of the UK MNOs to 5.1p per minute by 2010/2011. Now the Competition Commission have ruled the termination rate should be 4p (apart from 3 the 5th 3G operator who gets to chatge 4.4p). The Competition Appeal Tribunal passed the complaint to the Competition Commission after 3 [...]
What do you think about Critical Path?
Have you come across Critical Path in your travels? I’ve written about them now and again, particularly in the context of their Memova mobile messaging services. Apart from being dead impressed that they managed to snare the domain, cp.net, I’ve been following them since the dotcom days when they were the company you talked to [...]

Komarom, Hungary – Earlier today, Nokia celebrated an industry milestone at its mobile phone manufacturing facility in Komarom, Hungary – the production of its 500 millionth phone from a single factory. In his address to Komarom employees, Nokia Chief Executive Officer [...]

Expansys leaks again, only this time three handsets at once
Those ever more hilarious guys by each passing day at Expansys have just ousted not 1, but 3 Samsung mobiles all at the very same time. Marvellous! Highlighted to us by Cellpassion, who we must say are seriously on the ball of late and are making everyone else look bad, were the details on this [...]
‘And a 3.5mm jack’ – Why isn’t this a standard?
I was reading through a press release about the Nokia 5800 ‘Tube’ handset. Over a million of them shipped. Good news. My issue? Have a read of this sentence. I’ve bolded the problem line. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers a complete music experience and features a number of music and entertainment essentials, including a graphic [...]
