Take off your ‘dipshit earrings’ please

I had to do a post on this. Long have I had a problem with people who wear bluetooth in-ear or on-ear microphone headsets. I don’t mind it if you’re a plumber – an ambulance man, heck, even a policeman. But wearing a bluetooth headset for 8 hours a day — and taking one phone call from your insurance company trying to upgrade your policy each day – that’s inexcusable. If you use your headset continuously for hours on end, I think I can manage dispensation. However I think walking about the place – all day – wearing it… No.

I was thus delighted to read this tweet via @caaarlo:

RT @phonescooper: LOL @theexpert calls bluetooth headsets “dipsh!t earrings”

So yes. That’s my new description. Dipshit earrings. Love it.

They're also a possible security risk to your handset:

But I'm 100% with you on the dipshit/douchebag thing :->

Ok, I now feel doubly embarrassed about wearing mine. I kkep mine in the car, as the police here in Finland in my experience love to pounce on a driver chatting a phone without a headset, and I can't stand having wires around. And I will admit that I often leave it on when I get out of the car to go shopping or what have you. I was already aware the security risk that had been associated with them, but this was not something I was overly worried about. And I had seen a show from the U.K. called something like Grumpy Old Women who had been ferocious in their comments about men walking around with them on and had dismissed this as being a bunch old Z list “celebrities” being drastically out of touch with real live, but to read this now, well, yes I am embarrassed, but I think I will be able to handle the ridicule if it means I don't get ticketed by the police every time I need to take a call while driving.

Driving is a special case I reckon, Gareth. Obviously it makes total sense to use handsfree when driving. The key issue for me is if you're putting it on for a 3 hour drive and get no calls. In which case you're wearing an expensive earring.
