2009... you'd think these companies (Vodafone and Phones4U shop managers are guilty of it in spades) would have worked out some kind of Microsoft Word template by now.

Yeah - see your point.. just go on their cheapest tarrif and go SIM free :)

BTW that is a total FAIL of a sign, if I ran a shop I would not have laser printed 'Times New Roman' signage, looks vile - but that's probably because i'm a designer and not a sales person :)

It is a very long time Kip, you're absolutely right. The question is -- *given* I have to keep a 3 account... what do I do with it?

If I'm going to continue as a paying customer (which I should, in order to be able to accurately review stuff), then I might as well get full value, right?

Meh... I'd personally bite the large outlay and go SIM free.. if you see another phone you want 6 months down the line, stick it on ebay and get a large chunk of your cash back. 21 Months IS a long time.. specially in Mobile land!

K

Fair point Chris -- I need to maintain the 3 account so that I can test stuff out on all networks, so in effect, it's almost a 'business expense' -- I wouldn't imagine I'd be using the minutes that much. So since I have to keep paying for it, I thought I might as well get some value.... just it'd be typical if I get the N97 and then find another shit-hot-wonderful new device is offered by 3 next month...

I won't even bother to reiterate my attitude to 3 as I've done that in another post. However, my attitude to increasing contract length is horror; I don't like the fact that my phone only has 12 months warranty on an 18 month contract, but on 21, 24 or 36? I really feel sim free and rolling monthly contacts are the way forward. You can then sell or trade the handset when you want to upgrade.
