Help: Who do you know at LG Mobile? (Updated)

I had an entrepreneur contact me today asking if I knew anyone at LG Mobile they could talk to about getting on their application platform or even discussing the possibility of on-handset inclusion.

Unfortunately I had to reply no.

I know NOBODY at LG.

Let me just check again in my mind….

No. Nobody.

I know a few LG PR people. However the last time I checked — and this was a good 8-9 months ago — LG Mobile’s development team* simply wasn’t engaging with bloggers.

So whilst I’m continually in the middle of helping broker deals with the other handset manufacturers and mobile developers, LG is a big big blank in my life.

Which has suited me fine when they’ve been knocking out beautiful but fundamentally useless devices (from a mobile developer perspective).

But now I think the time might be right. This is the second person who’s asked if I know anyone.

So I pass that on to you.

Do you know anybody worth knowing at LG Mobile — who’d be interested in being passed potential opportunities from the MIR audience?

* Update: I modified this from the original statement (“LG Mobile simply wasn’t engaging with bloggers”) after Helen (from LG’s) wholly accurate points in the comments below.

  1. It's a strange one — I haven't given it a lot of thought because of all the work we've been doing helping companies out with other handset manufacturers. I thought I should reach out. You never know, there might be a responsible executive reading…

  2. Daniel Hernandez was a contact we had there, he is their Product Marketing Director in the UK, their office in Slough is 01753 491500, I guess he is a good place to start?

  3. tryied to get ahold of someone at LG CHINA resulted with the interesting situation where they put me through to a korean speak, who only spoke korean, finally got a translator, LG have no spokes people in UK, they do have press people in Amsterdam, and Berlin, and Poland. ok, so thats what i was told. who knows the extent of it. Generally Speaking LG sells ok in china, but its not a LOVED mobile here, with everyone knowing they make soso shoddy TAT… LG = Lucky its Going (to Work). Trying to get someone from LG China to respond to my emails, faxes, phone calls only got a call back from sales.

  4. I can't help but fell a little disappointed with your statement that “LG Mobile simply wasn’t engaging with bloggers” – partly because your post seems to be about development opportunities, not blogging. But also because I'd like to think we're pretty engaging, in all senses!

As you know from working with us, we've had an official LG Blog since September 2007 (http://www.lgblog.co.uk) with active involvement in our peers' blogs as well as our own. We try to start conversations, offer events that are specific to bloggers, give bloggers the opportunity to review products and offer bloggers the opportunity to meet with LG staff – yourselves included.

In fact, you nominated us for the Best PR Campaign category in 2008's MIR awards for our efforts.

While we haven't spoken directly in a little while I would've hoped you'd know we're always happy to help and you should feel you can come to us with anything like this.

We always welcome constructive feedback or suggestions via the blog or on email, so please get in touch if there is something you'd like to discuss with us. We'll also gladly field questions or put you in touch with the correct contact at LG if need be.

    Thanks, Helen

PS – LG have a developer's forum (http://developer.lgmobile.com/) and while I realise this may not be as open as some, we feel it's definitely a step in the right direction

  5. Ah sorry Helen — I should have been a *lot* more accurate in my phrasing. I didn't mean the blogger outreach in the UK (which in part contributed, quite rightly, to our awarding LG as a winner in the awards last year!). I've confused matters there. I've been to two of your LG blogger events in London!

Let me explain: I regularly talk directly to the management teams responsible for the mobile development efforts of handset manufacturers and operators. They tell me what they need, what they're looking for — and I match that with the companies and people I meet through MIR, to help connect the dots. So when an entrepreneur needs to get straight into the right people at Samsung's Innovator programme, for example, I introduce them to Martin Tannerfors there. Much of the time, the enquiries I field are 'do you think X would be interested in this'. It's fantastic to be able to help by making a call or dropping an email to find out. Often the answer back from the operator or manufacturer is 'no, we wouldn't put that on the phone' — which is fine, because that saves a heck of a lot of time and misplaced hope.

The person who contacted me today had tried every single number and email for LG Mobile they could find — but could find nobody to speak to. Are you able to put them directly in touch with the people who're deciding what goes on the next set of LG Mobile handsets (for example)? Because if you are I think this person would dearly like to talk.
