Cheers, I have an original G1 in T Mobile and agree, it's not bad at all. Find it quicker most of the time, unless the network just drops the page request, which it did a lot earlier in the year but seems to have improved.

You can use the Speed Test app to check your data transfer rate. I wrote a brief post about it here: http://www.appnoodle.com/2009/11/speed-test-net-connec... or just download from the Market.

T-Mo isn't bad at all on 3G. It would be interesting to compare with Orange's effort.

In terms of who to believe... allow me to explain.

3UK does have the biggest 3G network in the UK but it does not cover the majority of population. This is where Orange comes in. They cover most of the densely populated areas and hence cover more people than any other network in the UK.

I am using a high end Android device on the Orange Internet consumer APN (access point name), my screen time out is set at 2 minutes. It often takes longer than this to load a page of dabr, the web based twitter client. Will be interested to hear about the mobile safari experience of the 30,000 new iPhone customers. Could be worth them measuring their thoughput too!
