‘We’ll text you before we charge you again’

I’ve just landed in Rome and I’m delighted to have received this notification by text:

Welcome to ITALY. Vodafone Passport calls cost 75p per call + your home rate (including bundled mins) to make and receive. SMS’s are 11p. Daily cost for data is up to £4.99inc vat per 25MB allowance. We’ll text you before we charge you again. Call 4636 for free pricing info & 112 for emergency services.

I like the idea of being sent a text before I’m charged again. Good strategy Vodafone.

Is the call pricing inc VAT? I never understood how vodafone passport works. the 75p per call + home rate. If home rate is free (bundle min), does that mean you only pay 75 p per call?
I wonder why the so-called international operators do not include international SMS/calls in their bundles. I mean, if I pay 20p for a text message to an Spanish mobile, I rather get O2 to take 4 credits of my SMS package instead!

If you're on a business plan, don't count on it. I've never been texted for data on my blackberry.

Sad that Vodafone which looks like such a nice company in Italy is such a rogue here in India..They have been overcharging me for sometime, and the customer call keeps you flirting with the robots..Damn, I am waiting for MNP to kick off next month here so I can move to Airtel..

Btw, have a nice time in Italy!

…but according to EU legislation roaming cannot cost more than 49 cents (44 p) per minute for outgoing calls and 24 cents (22 p) per minute for incoming calls. So if you, for instance, receive a call which lasts shorter than ca 3 minutes (depending on your home rate) you're over-charged and should sue Vodafone.
Or have I missed something here?
Your data rate is OK, though, considering that operators are allowed to charge up to 1 euro/MB (that is not directly applicable on consumer prices, since this is the amount the operators are allowed to charge each other for data roaming).
