You will find the setting for switching ON/OFF the pins in the settings===> Map view===> Show on Map.
If you don't want to see those pins, then you can switch them OFF.

It is annoying that even the official 360 forum is flooded with incompetent people ranting over these sort of trivial issues. Perhaps you should start by reading the user manual or spend a bit more time with the device without prejudice?

Again, I hate the damn phone probably more than you do (really!) but some of the rants were really unjust.
