Have a read of this:
The Payments Council, which represents banks and payments groups, has announced oon that plans to scrap cheques have been dropped.
Charities, small business and campaigners had been outraged at plans end cheque clearing from 31 October 2018.
MPs said the council’s decision was “a victory for Middle England”.
via Cheques will not be axed – Telegraph.
Cheques? Flipping pieces of paper that we have to WRITE on?
A ‘victory’ for Middle England? More like deliberately putting the UK back 10 years.
cheques were scrapped over here about 12 years ago ………..hasn’t affected life here, then again EU countries adopted chip’n’pin 15 years before the UK…………
welcome to ‘Middle England’
Cheques exist because of profiteering by Credit Card companies, which over-charge for each transaction. People do need a way of paying individuals directly without using cash and without sharing bank account information due to the lax security that they have in this respect, as seen by the ‘famous’ Jeremy Clarkson hack. When we have a cost effective (i.e. free to the consumer) solution, then cheques can happy disappear
A very good point Ian. Jeb Brilliant from abrilliantblog.com tells me that
in the States, college students are using Square to send cash to each
other.
More “Middle Ages” England?
That’s the phrase I was looking for!
