On This Day in 2006 I was using a Motorola SLVR (badly)

We’ve happened upon a new feature here at Mobile Industry Review.

Since we’ve been publishing more or less every day since 2006 we — now and again — have a rather interesting set of articles at the bottom of every post.

Under the ‘On This Day’ section, you’ll find posts that we published on this day last year, or in 2007 or in 2006. Fascinating.

Today it seems that I didn’t publish anything back in 2006. So the system randomly pulled out this post I made on the 29th March 2006. Shocking. Embarrassing.

YES I was actually writing about a Motorola SLVR. I even mention my brother’s RAZR.

SHOCKING.

It was a long time ago though….

I left the Motorola SLVR L7 in the bag for over 24 hours. Being a slight technical geek I do enjoy ripping the boxes open and playing with shiny new technology. However I had lots to do last night so I didn’t get the opportunity.

Blyk reaches 200,000 members in the UK

200,000 members in one year of going live, Blyk has added 100,000 since April this year.

Impressive figures, but the figure I would be much interested is how many of those users have topped up their account!

Still they are getting good response rates 25 percent of those who receive ads respond to them, costing advertisers 50 pence per response. With the likes of Coca Cola, L’Oreal and Sky on board I am sure the business will continue to grow here in the UK and abroad.

ITV brought premium back with Dancing on Ice, Blyth Valley Housing used SMS to communicate with their tennants, Gizmo launched a free text messaging service, and we learned that you can find out your Visa has expired by text.

On this Day…March 4. Texting than marrying a stranger.

In 2006…

Newcastle Council came into the 21st century and started texting, MMS airline ticketing arrived in Germany, the SMS World Cup was announced, and someone texted a stranger, and ended up marrying them!

On this day…February 28. Ewan almost buys a “normal” phone.

On this day in 2006…

You could MMS your baby’s ultrasound scan to your friends, we found out that lovers in the UK sent 120 Million Valentine’s messages, Google.com was banned by Hutchinson 3g UK just as Sony Ericsson was putting it in their handset menu and Ewan was contemplating buying a normal phone.

In 2007…

Imified still rocked, All Free Calls launched in the UK and Nokia is going to tell you when the E61i is available.

On this day in 2006…

The people in Uganda found out it was time to vote by text, mTouche licenses were suspended in Singapore, the you won the lottery scam was resurrected again, this time by text and we discovered 89% of brands planned to market by text.

In 2007…

Apple said that mobile companies are clueless, T-mobile UK was nailed, Ewan was ready to shoot the guy on the train with him, and we all wondered how you pronounce Nokia.

We had some problems with Good Mobile on Orange, Phones4U was winding up Ewan’s brother, there was a text scam about winning a million dollars and we learned that Tower Bridge can track your journey across it via Bluetooth.
