Patrick Smith of Joshua PR
Founder
Joshua PR
London, UK
Biography:
A marcoms professional for over ten years and a technology PR specialist for over five. Previous roles have included working for Ogilvy & Mather’s B2B specialist agency as well as working for a company selling private jets.
Prior to founding Joshua PR, Patrick was the UK MD of a PR agency specialising in telecoms.
He Says:
For many clients the traditional model of marketing agencies is flawed, especially if that company is a small, exciting start-up with a great product or idea, but not necessarily a huge amount of funding right now.
Joshua PR was set up to help out those companies and offer an alternative to the traditional agency model.
Favourite Mobile Application / Service:
I still love the basic stuff. After voice, my phone gets used far more for SMS and mobile email than anything else
Most Admired Person In The Mobile Industry:
I really admire all the guys that are constantly innovating, constantly trying to find new ways to make the experience better for users. What they have to do though is make sure that they take consumers along with them and not jump ahead and only develop for the geeks. There’s a huge market of users out there willing to try new stuff as long as it’s not too scary for them.
Most Admired Company In The Mobile Industry:
From a PR point of view, you have to admire what people like Vodafone and LG are doing with their blog awareness teams. Obviously Apple has made a huge difference to the mobile landscape recently. I’m not sure about admire, mainly because the jury’s still out … but Google is going to be one to watch. If they can get it right …
First Phone:
I can’t remember, but it was an old brick, probably a Nokia and I was on Orange. I can still remember receiving my first text message – I didn’t know phones could do that and I thought I was being stalked!
Current Phone:
G1
