ROK launch mobile TV in China

Just got a note from Bruce at ROK TV. Have a read:

UK-based mobile technology and entertainment developer, ROK, has announced it’s Beijing subsidiary, ROK New Net, has signed a strategic licensing agreement with Shanghai Dragon Mobile Information Ltd, a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group (SMG), to provide ROK’s patent-pending mass-market 2.5G mobile TV technology in China.

The agreement allows SMG to deploy multi-channel mobile TV services to 2.5G handsets via GPRS, powered by ROK technologies, across China and will include  international and Chinese-language channels. The roll-out will be on a regional basis initially forecast to begin in Shanghai, Guangdong and Fujian later this year and is aimed at recruiting ‘several million’ subscribers in the first 12 months alone.

Dear me, someone give me some ROK shares.  China, eh?  While I haven’t actually given this a go here in the UK (I think I’d better take a look), I can visualise the power and possibilities of the service.  If they can get a good amount of traction with even 1% of the country’s 400 million mobile users, then they’ll be ROKing! 😉
