Orange M3100 – “Great PDA; Terrible Phone”

Orange M3100

Rachel, our tech guru who runs the internet team has just taken delivery of an Orange M3100 multi-doo-dah device. Like my old T-Mobile MDA with a few small differences.

Her perspective?

Shit phone. Super for sending email. Great PDA. It needs a home button, back button and a close application button.

Another semi happy quite reasonably-impressed Windows Mobile fan 😉

However, don’t forget that she has to swap to an 18 month contract to get it. Orange, it seems, HATE giving their existing customers any ground whatsoever. They wanted a stupid amount of money for the handset — so she had to threaten to leave before she managed to get it for £4.99.

As always, Rachel got the, ‘oh, that offer is for brand new customers only’ line from them to begin with.

  1. We still have some ways to go to get the perfect pda/phone. My solution is to use a second phone when that’s all the functionaility I think I might need. Which does sort of defeat the purpose of having a single device, but the hassle factor of swapping SIMS over etc is just about about worth it.

The Sony Ericsson M600 is the best I’ve seen so far but not sure how available it is yet. I think Ewan’s a big fan of the Pxxx’s?

Maybe in another 12 to 18 months this will not be an issue?
