The 4mb ShoZu limit

I’m sat here fiddling around with the N93 and trying to send videos from it, via ShoZu, to Nakama.

It won’t upload my demo videos. Why? Well, there’s a 4mb limit.

What an arse, I thought…………….. until I noticed that the video I was trying to upload was 35mb.

Ahh.

Oooh my.

Files that size begin to change things. That’s quite a substantial amount of bandwidth to be whacking through ShoZu without paying them. No wonder there’s a 4mb limit.

I’d also need to think about how my data usage limits with T-Mobile would be impacted by whacking 35mb videos to the web from my handset.

If I did one 35mb video a day, that would be just over a gig of data. I’d need to think about upgrading to T-Mobile’s next usage bundle — £12.50 I think it is.

Let’s see how things go……..

  1. Surely there’s no point in taking VGA reg video and uploading it to Shozu and the like? It’ll never be seen at that resolution on the web. Best to use ‘Handset (High)’ resolution (30fps, 320 by 240′ and then you’ll find that files are a sensible size and uploaded in sensible times.

Of course there may be times when you’ll be recording for TV or DVD use and also want to resample down to lower resolution for use on the web – haven’t tried that yet myself 😎

  2. I had the same issue with the N93 and just bluetooth it to my laptop and upload locally when I return… 4MB is a serious bummer – especially when you’ve got WiFi as an option… you should be able to send more over directly.

I don’t like the idea of shooting at the lower resolution personally as I’d rather have the best quality an scale down for sharing, pretty hard to scale up.
