Three UK: Why no Nokia N95?

I have been pondering this question for some time. Every other network has got hold of the handset and they’re all doing a roaring trade upgrading their enthusiastic users.

All the Three store has to offer in that department is the (rather good looking, I’ll grant you, E65). I think it’s a bit of a shame that it’s delayed. Rumours flying around my email box say 3 months. Others say 5 months. Who knows? Not I…

Update: Ok, I have an update from a few people who reckon that the N95 will be available on Three in maybe a month or so. Now. The N95 WITH all the X-Series apps… that’s going to be one sexy handset!

  1. Just a quick update for you..

I just got the E65. Fantastic phone. Got a look and use of the N95 the other day, boy am I glad I got the E65 instead. Even after waiting years for the N95.

Anywho, the point of this comment is to let you know why the N95 is not on three. I spoke to some people at three the other day, and at present the N95 is yet to pass any of their software tests. They have not even started on the custom software tests.

So it will most probably be at least 4-6 months before we see it anywhere near three. And to be honest we probably wont see the first version on three ever. We will see the N95 second revision most likely at the end of the year / start of next year with all the bug fixes and custom software.

    Just FYI.

I mean, did you not notice how they pulled the “coming soon” sony from the x-series site and then replaced it with the E65.

    🙂

    David

  2. I was a bit disappointed by this, the other day I was all ready to buy an N95 on Three, with the justification that:

    a) I don’t have anything on the Three network
    b) I don’t have an N95
    c) I have Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone contract handsets, why not complete the set (we’ll conveniently ignore O2)

But when I went to the site it wasn’t there!!!… I’d just assumed that they’d have it as the flagship handset on x-series.

    So I still don’t have an N95 🙁

  3. Thought I’d chuck in me tuppence worth. Find below transcript of online chat with India this morning:

[Andrew] When will Three launch the N95 handset?
    [Nargis] Hi Andrew.
[Nargis] We might launch it in June.
    [Andrew] Might?
    [Nargis] Yes.
[Andrew] Surely Three either will or will not launch the N95 – other operators have had it for months…. what’s the delay with Three?
[Nargis] Due to testing and pricing agreements, this information is subject to change. However please check http://www.three.co.uk for the latest information.
[Andrew] There is no information on the website – hence me chatting to you. Thanks for the info – I’ll cancel my X-Series Gold today.
[Nargis] Is there anything else I can help you with?
[Andrew] No, that’s it for today. Thank you.
[Nargis] Thanks for contacting us. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if we can be of further assistance. Good bye

  4. I contacted the 3 upgrade department today and was told quite bluntly that the N95 will not be available on 3, they would/could not give me a reason but said that it is definitely not going to be avaiable on 3!!! Well it looks like 3 are only going to have me as a customer for a couple of more weeks then!!

  5. Just contacted three and have been told the N95 will be released in june/july subject to software testing (I assume this means how much they’ve managed to balls the phone up) and pricing arrangements. Further to earlier comment it seems Three don’t know their backside from their elbows!

  6. Gahh… I’m tempted to buy a contract N95 from O2 (as they’re unlocked) and use my contract 3 usim in it…

  7. Hi all

    Got this today….

The Nokia N95 is on our roadmap for release in small quantity in June or July, however this is not guaranteed as it is still subject to sign off and software testing.

If you would like us to email you when the handset is launched, please email your details to 3livesupport@three.co.uk, and enter Nokia N95 in the subject header.

  8. VIC – don’t use a three sim in the 02 N95. a friend of mine did this and it locks you out of all but the most basic ‘three’s own’ web facilities. no video, no internet, just mail and ringtones.

  9. I called the ‘3 upgrade’ team today, they told me that N95 was having software problems, the main one being the battery lasting roughly 30 mins when using certain functions (i’m guessing the ‘sat nav’). They offered me a refurbished Nokia N93 for £40 on a 25/month 12 month contract, free is I signed up for 18 months.

This sounded tempting till I read up on the N93 and the original N93 is panned, and been replaced by the N93i.

  10. Hi, I caelle 3 today and they said that the N95 isnt available, when I asked how long it will be before its available, the rep said it will not be available on 3 at all.

I hope they do as I am stuck with them for another 10 month.

anyone know who is doing the best deal for the N95

  11. If you go to http://www.three.com and follow the links to all the other Three networks around the world that offer X-Series (Australia, Denmark, Italy, Austria & Sweden) you’ll see they all offer the N95!! So why not in the UK? Doesn’t this blow Three UK’s “software problems” excuse out of the water? It seems all the other Three networks have tested it with the X-Series suite of software successfully?!

  12. three are now shit i used to think they were good and cheap but other networks offer better phones and cheaper monthly line rentals
my contract is up right now with three and im thinkng of going elsewhere!!
i was expecting at least a sony w880i at least buy they give us a lame ass w660i instead

    boooooooooooooooo

    boooooooooooooo
    lets all booooo together

  13. I have been in to three store recently and the said that the date for the lunch of the Nokia N95 three network will be the 1st of August 2007 !!

    Yippie !!

    N95 on Three

  14. Went into my local 3 store on Saturday 28th July 2007 to ask if there was any news about the N95 to my surprise they said yes and are taking preorders.

Price of the phone is to be £45 if taken with a price plan £28 p/month or higher.

I have preordered mine even got a receipt of my order.

    Well done 3 about time.

  15. Got mine on Saturday from 3 on Oxford Street near Tottenham Court Tube what a phone really glad I waited for it on Three.

  16. Does anyone know if all phones can be unlocked to 3? I have a 3 sim & am contracted to them for another year, but don’t want to buy a phone that can be unlocked to every network apart from 3. In particluar I was thinking about the Nokia N95 or the Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber-shot.
