Trying things out

We’ve got a ton of news to deliver this week here on SMS Text News.

Normally we’d have been publishing like no tomorrow — however I decided to give it a rest this morning by way of a test. I’d strongly welcome your feedback on publishing volume.

Now and again many readers have commented that there’s a ton of news — sometimes upwards of 10 posts a day — published here. It’s oft commented that we publish too much. We could cut it down. It’s also oft comented by many readers that the volume is good.

So my research question to you is this:

When you checked the feed today and found nothing new published today, how did you react?

Yours,
with a ton of stuff to post,

Ewan & the SMS Text News team

  1. annoyed not to find any new posts, coz whenever i check im expecting to see something new. If i dont want to read any news then i dont log on. More news is always better and bringing news as it happens combined with your writting style is what makes your blog site stand out far much better than other sites like textually and intomobile.

  2. Being someone who recently commented about too many posts, its funny that you should hear this from me, but i was thinking “Is Ewan still alive? How come there aren’t any posts?”

  3. Gotta say, I am always pleased of the frequency of your posts, I rely on my rss reader to deliver news and bits as they’re being reported on, and you never fail in any flurry of posts to deliver at the least one piece of news or insight that I hadn’t seen yet. At the same time, you may cover things that other people are too, but you tend to be quite verbose and always have a specific insight to share, so keep em comin’ boyo!

(ps, please email me, I don’t think my mails are getting through to you somehow).

  4. Because I use “reader.google.com” I get a broad view of what you’ve posted and take my pick on what interests me. I think the volume of your news is fine. I believe there is no such thing as too much news, just as long as I can filter out what I don’t want.

If there was no news I’d probably asked if you’d been phone jacked again!

Also, you mentioned having no insurance on your N95, I currently pay £7.95 for T-Mobile insurance onwhatever jandset I own and wondered if it was worth doing a post on insurance costs as £20+ is way too much for handset insurance.

  5. I wondered what had happened too, I don’t have a problem with the amount of posts as each post is usually nice and short, to the point and easy to read so it’s not a big problem to have 10 or so posts a day.

Keep the amount of posts up and the length short I say ..

  6. To be honest, I didn’t notice… Although this was probably due to google news being down and I didn’t get anything new from anyone.

Like Nassar, I just keep scrolling down till something interests me, and more often than not, I do stop at sms news.

  7. I agree with Jonathan, I say the more posts the better. I follow Tim Ferriss’s philosophy and only check my RSS twice during the work day. Once in the morning and once at the end of the day. In the evening it’s whenever I’m near my computer or pull it up on my phone. But I like your style of short and to the point. I don’t mind clicking to read the rest of the story if it’s longer.

I have one complaint and that is the mobile site. I like having the full version of the site on my E61i. The minimalistic version is just to boring to me.

  8. I agree, post away! Something has to keep me entertained in the Tim Hortons mile long drive thru in the morning 😀

  9. The more news the better!

I now only use SMS Text news to keep up-to date.

I would even consider paying (a very small amount) for the “FULL” news.

  10. Yep, agree with all of that. Love the quantity and quality of the short and to the point posts. Makes it easier to scroll through and pick the ones that interest me. Keep it up and keep it free!
