Trent is, like me, really bored of Nokia. Really bored. We both want to see more! And I hope it’s coming! Check out some of Trent’s thoughts below…
It does seem that Nokia has reached its pinnacle in the manufacturing of mobile devices and is capable of only repeating the same features in prettier, more glossy form factors.
Despite this shameful conclusion, there isn’t anything that says it cannot redeem itself in the coming future (look at Sony Ericsson’s Xperia). If newcomer Apple can come out of the woodwork and have such a strong effect on the smartphone consumer, there should be no limits as to where the longstanding Nokia can go in future devices. I wish that I could be amazed by the N96 and even the E71, but a part of me feels like they are just another phase of what is already in existence.
Agreed! How overdue are we for a QWERTY N-series handset. I'd even make do with an E71 if they'd just release the damn thing…
I'm due an upgrade and the money has been burning a hole in my pocket for several months now.
So, N82 then, Ben? Despite the weird keypad?
Maybe – WOM are sending me one to review OVI on so I'll be able to have a good play in advance, but at the moment I'm still wedded to having a QWERTY device so I might just wait a bit longer or buy off-network. Thinking of switching to PAYG anyway to just run a
I really like that strategy, Ben. I might adopt that too. Interesting,
interesting. That's effectively what I'm doing with my 3UK/T-Mobile
accounts — making them data only. I'm not too sure how much data I'm using
of my paltry 120mb allowance on Vodafone.
So what about the E71, eh?
Those dimensions are pretty much an exact match for the iPhone. The spec is pretty saucy too.
Is the E71 the 'two-device' killer? If the browser was multitouch, would it be the iPhone killer ….no, don't go there.
Sound off!

It is shaping up to be a pretty sweet device, but… I'm dubious about all the specs coming out of the BGR articles. A while back they were also touting an N-series QWERTY device with a picture that clearly said E71 on it 🙂
Like the Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas – will believe it when I see it.
However, it would be my choice on the basis of what's been published (as well as the iPhone).
Wat would be really cool would be if Three would provide an 'auto renew' feature for add-ons so I could just forget about it, but manual intervention once a month is something I can tolerate for now…
Coincidently – just published: http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/24/nokia-e71-sn…
Have you set a diary entry for it, Ben?

Thinking of switching to PAYG anyway to just run a £5pm data-only handset… I only need one handset for voice and am considering switching that to the iPhone.
