Trials and tribulations of the iPhone

I was sat on the train this morning next to a guy conspiuously using his iPhone (you know, “look at me … I’ve got an iPhone”).

So it made me laugh when I heard him say:

“Sorry about that mate, it’s the trouble with touchscreen, I was just wiping some dust away and I cut you off.”

  1. I am not sure that is even possible.

Also, I dont know why normal use of a mobile suddenly becomes conspicuous just because it is an iphone.

It is hard not to be a bit conspicuous using an iphone though – but I am not sure it is ever deliberate.

  2. It's possible to switch it off, aye. I've done it a few times and quite a
lot of folk I know with iPhones have too. (Or sometimes they mute the call
    by mistake)

  3. Dont get me wrong – there are loads of things wrong with the iphone but these aren't issues I have ever experienced and I use mine all the time. I am not even sure how you could do it to be honest. Each to their own and all that.

  4. I'm inclined to agree with you there, AJ. I think it happened to me once or
twice but I'm very careful with how I used the device. Other people tell me
they keep on doing this regularly though!

  5. AJ – to be honest I'm not sure what he did – but that's what he said to his mate when he phoned him back.

As for conspicuous usage – he was on headphones, with the phone in the middle of the train table – just begging people to look. Of course nobody did.
