The Dancing Dude at the Skyfire Party

I’ve had a lot of mails from people wondering about the Dancing Dude — and more specifically, asking if I had any more footage of him.

Well I do. A lot. Six minutes worth, actually.

I wasn’t going to post this but after the requests, who am I to judge? 😉

The background is this. I was wandering around the Skyfire / Buzzd party at CTIA last week looking for people to film. I captured quite a lot of smiling, talking folk — footage that I later used as ‘b-roll’ in one of the interviews I did.

When I pushed my way through the crowds round to the back of the club, I found the dance floor still empty (it was quite early in the evening). The DJ was knocking out some good tunes and one chap — the Dancing Dude — had just taken to the floor.

‘Interesting,’ I thought, ‘He’s doing some confident moves there.’

And I swung up the camera and hit record. Here he is:

Fantastic! When I first saw this I assumed it was a mobile exec trying to be 'hip with the kids' (a bit like Whately keeps trying to do), while launching a new dance-a-long type mobile game.

But no, he's really dancing … and scaring away girls by the looks of the middle bit!

Ahh it's not just me that incorporates the “nudge the glasses back up the nose” into their dancing then!

Its funny actually because around this time Peggy from MSearch went up to the DJ and said something like:

“Dude – you should change the music as there is only one drunk guy and his cameraman boyfriend dancing”

The DJ just glared at her.

Then – as she walked away someone went up to her and pointed out that the DJ was actually the biggest San Francisco DJ in the city – like, really famous.

Which goes to show that being famous does not make you able to read crowds….

Anyone over 35 in mobile would probably groove to Van Morrison, Bananarama, Tom Jones, etc, as opposed to cutting-edge stuff that you only know if you go to clubs.

BTW Finally got high-speed internet here in Vegas so catching up on SO much stuff!
