“Who” do you think you are using that RAZR camera?

So I went to see the Who last night in Hamilton, EXCELLENT show I must say. For being in their 60’s, Roger & Pete still know how to rock.

The one thing that amazed me (that always amazes me) is people taking pictures with their crappy camera phones. Do they not realize that’s not going to show up? I have an N95, with a 5 megapixel camera, and from 26 rows away, this is what my pictures looked like.

They aren’t even *that* great.

So what makes people think this tiny little, what does a RAZR have, 1.2 megapixels on a good day? camera is going to take pictures that you can even make something out on? “Look look, there he is, he’s that white square right there!”

Same thing with video & sound clips. The husband had his E62 out trying to record some sound clips, when he got home and listened they were so garbled you could barely make out two words. The only reason why I took pictures (and video, which I’m going to upload tonight) is because I know on an N95, it’s going to turn out at least legible/audible/etc.

Get a better camera phone, or bring a real camera.

(PS, it’s often said that cell phones are the new “lighters” at concerts, you know, slow song, wave your cell phone in the air. Not so at the Who, the lighters were out in full force 🙂

  1. “So what makes people think this tiny little, what does a RAZR have, 1.2 megapixels on a good day?”

Your photos above are 500×375 pixels – I make that less than 0.2 megapixels. Sure, they were more than that when you took them, but posting them at 0.2 megapixels doesn’t do much for your point.

My first digital camera was 2 megapixels, but I only ever used it at 1.2 megapixels because 2mp photos took too long to write to the card. I’ve printed those photos at up to A4 and I bet they look better than anything you could produce with your N95.

Pixel dimensions are pretty much meaningless unless you’re going to print at over A4 – lenses and sensors are what count. As mobile companies try to squeeze more pixels onto ever smaller sensors at shorter focal lengths, the picture is only likely to get worse. Never mind the marketing, do the physics! If I used a mobile-phone-sized camera, I really wouldn’t want it to do more than about 2mp.

  2. go phone snob go ! seriously it's just like 1996 with camera phones . At least in Canada and the USA it's like 1996 because people are using 1 megapixel cameraphones (or 2 megapixel iPhones) which take really bad pictures most of the time. Unlike the N95 5 megapixel which takes good pictures a lot more of the time!
(i was just recently in heathrow and helsinki and was amazed at the number of N95s around, there are basically zero N95s comparatively in Toronto, Vancouver and their airports!

  3. ah burlington, site of the long gone but not forgotten Computerland where I bought my first computer, a 16K Commodore Pet with a real keyboard !

ah i see then that you are a mobile-ista suffering in the current b*ckward mobiie gh*tto we affectionately call Canada 🙂

  4. So this means The Who passed over Toronto (where I live) entirely… That's a switch — they did at least five of their eighteen “farewell” shows there, if I remember correctly.

Hope they didn't play anything from “Endless Wire” 😉

  5. here in New England we don't like Canadians! it's a hockey thing.
no jk, HOFO is Canadian.. we like them.
btw, did WHO bust up guitars and drums at the end?
    youtubing it.
