Nokia N900 Maemo demonstration video

It is looking RATHER good:

  1. Thanks Ewan, less grumpy now 🙂

I stand by my first point though, putting a video that can't be watched by an iphone on a website isn't really going to get anyone to move from an iphone to a maemo device.

    Cheers

  2. Mac? iPhone? You think it's an accident? Both are minority players. Why should Nokia care about them? Apple fans are fanatical. Tey only buy Apply because they have been assimilated and they believe the “This is the best XXX on the planet” hype. No sense wasting effort talking to them about Nokia because they put their fingers in their ears and screem “I love Apple I Love Steve Jobs I love Apple I Love Steve Jobs …”.

    IMHO 🙂

  3. To be honest I have windows machines but I didn't have any speakers attached to them, and didn't want to wait 10 minutes for my laptop to reboot from linux to vista and demand to do updates.

Although if you look about pretty much all the press relating to the N900 seems to be saying that it is Nokia's attempt to lure customers away from the iphone. I'm not sure how much I agree with that and how much I think it is just a fairly forward thinking product because to be honest even though Nokia has the majority of the smartphone market at present, personally, I think the devices are beginning to feel quite dated. Although this video still makes the UI look sluggish compared to an iphone (in places).

    However, it'll still be interesting.

  4. Minority? It depends how you look at the data. I dug up smartphone market % for a post a few days ago for a blog post – only RIM and Apple are gaining significant market share

As per OSX vs the rest.. well I am a business user and do not give a toss about who's manufacturing my computer. I make my purchase decision based on what gives me more productivity and increases my bottom line. Hence switching away from Windows but staying away from the iPhone (need a physical keyboard with crappy slide panel so it's either a BlackBerry or Nokia E61 for me).

  5. <blinks> sorry, what did you say? I was focused on the sleeping cat on his head.

OK, so Nokia have managed to make a phone with the same hardware slickness of the iPhone, but with lots of Nokia menus and visually unintuitive stuff in the way. I didn't see a single thing there that made me think “that looks easy to use”. Ah well. One out of two ain't bad.

  6. Dude,

1, you should learn to read more than just the hype
2, USA is not the only market in the world.

But you will believe what you want 🙂
