The best network for the iPhone in the UK: Orange

It’s official. After a good week-and-a-bit, it’s time to end the poll we’ve been running here on Mobile Industry Review.

The news that o2 lost their exclusivity on the iPhone is a big deal in the United Kingdom. A very big deal. So much so that the issue has definitely caught the normob (“normal mobile user”) attention, especially customers of Orange and Vodafone.

Orange are slated to begin offering the iPhone before Christmas, meanwhile apparently Vodafone will begin in the early new year.

So what, then, is the best network, according to the MIR audience, for the iPhone?

I thought everyone might go for Vodafone but I thought the real winner would be Orange, particularly since they announced it first.

It’s been cut-throat… but Orange pipped o2 to the post, in the MIR reader poll:

What d’ya think? Good news? Do you agree with the result?

  1. I think Orange is the WORST network to get it personally. Poor data plans with a phone like the iPhone is just shocking. I would say from the list, Vodafone were best to get it with the data pricing, customer support and future thinking by that i mean services like Vodafone 360 and rolling out 14.4mb/s HSDPA.

3 would be good for coverage but can you imagine calling up for something technical not on their script?

  2. I can't imagine that Orange won't be bringing out new iphone-centric data plans when it gets released, just like O2 / AT&T / etc did.

That something that the iphone has done – force networks to offer unlimited data (although it peeves me slightly when they offers these plans to iphone owners only.. or it did before I got an iphone 😉

  4. I find Orange to have a solid HSPDA connection where the O2 user next to me will be complaining about dropped calls and poor 1 bar network reception. In many areas too where you’d expect there to be connectivity.

Saying that, an influx of iphone will test the network; time will tell if Orange will suffer like O2.

  5. I am not sure if Orange is right for the iPhone but let's hope it is.
Is there any independent research available that tells consumers about the data coverage etc of the UK networks?

  6. It is interesting, this is exactly what I hear from Orange users. My friends
using Orange struggle with coverage and agree that they stay with Orange
because of a) cheaper tariffs b) can't be arsed to change networks. Indeed
my friends is a limited sample but again, I would like to read some research
    about data connection/coverage etc

  9. Well, I had voted for Vodafone when the poll has started. From my thinking Vodafone is a more reliable brand and no.1 service operator as far as concerning about revenue. Though, Orange deserved to get maximum votes.
