Video: Symbian’s Social Mobile Framework puts ‘social’ in the operating system

Continuing our Symbian Foundation coverage, Rafe and I popped in to see James Aley at their London HQ. James is supervising the addition of a ‘Social Mobile Framework’ into the new Symbian code. Symbian aren’t developing this themselves, instead it’s being contributed by embedded communications experts, Sasken (a good example of others contributing to the open Symbian platform).

The framework itself enables developers to integrate social networking services and content via a standard interface — so once it’s live, we should see all kinds of applications start to use friend lists, status updates, images and so on.

In this video, James defines the Social Mobile Framework and discusses it’s potential. Have a watch!

(Rafe’s also produced some editorial around the framework and the video here).

  1. This is great news, and something I suggested a long time ago when Symbian Ideas went live. Its a positive move in the right direction for sure.
