Deadline Extended: Do you work for the UK’s most innovative mobile company?

Www smartukproject co

Ahead of Mobile World Congress 2012, UK Trade & Investment is hunting furiously for the UK’s most innovative mobile company. They launched a competition, Smart UK Project, to find a UK company with a product or service that has the potential to change the way people use mobiles across the world.

I’m confident we’ll see some phenomenal entries when the finalists are announced, however I wanted to get this note up and out right-away to highlight that the deadline for entries has been extended to 21st of December at 5.30pm.

If you’re shortlisted, you’ll get the opportunity to present your company to a panel of expert judges at Mobile World Congress and the winner will be showcased at a super-high-profile UKTI event during 2012. The winner will be announced on 29th February at MWC.

Entering is rather easy. All you need to do is fill in this one-page entry form and you’re done. I’ve had a look and I reckon I could knock out an entry in about 15-20 minutes. If you’re the CEO or one of the founders, you should have all the patter so it’ll be a piece of cake. (e.g. Describe your product/service in no more than 150 words, why will your innovation take the industry by storm, etc.)

Do seriously consider setting aside some time to enter. There is no cost at all. But DO think about your investors. If you’ve taken investment from anyone, the chances are they’ll be utterly delighted to see you shortlisted (let alone possibly win) so this would be a rather sensible thing to do for any startups.

The basic requirements are pretty simple:

– You must be a UK company
– You must not have more than 250 employees
– You must not have revenues in excess of €50 million
– You must be able to attend Mobile World Congress 2012
– You must be able to attend the UK Showcase of Technology at the British Business Embassy on 3rd August 2012
– You must comply with the terms and conditions of entry as outlined here

Job done, right?

Get on it! You’ve got about a week before the deadline closes. Good luck!

  1. Mobile industry needs innovation. Though present standards are doing great, the field of health, education and m-commerce definitely requires up-gradation and precision. I wish the companies participating in the competition all the luck. The winners sure will have a long way to go!
