In the States? Nokia might woo you with a 20% price cut

Would a 20% price cut woo you to the Nokia platform? I wonder. It might cause US operators to take more than the customary one or two low level handsets and offer them to their customers.

AFP is reporting that if Nokia does drop US prices (to try and eat into Motorola’s share), LG may well follow.

South Korea’s LG Electronics said Tuesday it may have to cut its handset prices if global leader Nokia moves first to do so.

LG’s share price fell sharply this week amid market talk that Nokia may cut its prices for select cellphone models by up to 20 percent to grab some customers away from US rival Motorola.
The speculation fueled worries that South Korean handset makers may be forced to follow suit at the expense of profitability

  1. Nokia would never, ever, ever, fuck with their margins to win marketshare. Why do you think Wall Street loves them? Why do you think Motorola went to shit? The other guys are trying to break double digit operating margins while Nokia is at 12% overall, 20% in the Devices and Services unit alone.
