Yesterday evening was rather entertaining in Twitterville if you were a @Scobleizer follower.
He, all of a sudden, started tweeting. A lot. Big time.
I don’t have a problem with that. As far as I’m concerned, everything he says has a degree of relevance. He makes sure to send more or less fully formed Tweet messages that can be consumed out of sync if necessary.
He Tweeted.
And he Tweeted.
And he blew the house down. Within, I dunno, about 10 minutes he was retweeting replies and other messages from annoyed subscribers. It was as fascinating experiment.
The next effect? Apart from thoroughly entertaining me? Well, 600 folk unsubscribed.
“Good,” says Scoble (I’m paraphrasing). He went on to Tweet just recently that, “I’ve analyzed the 600 people who unfollowed yesterday and the IQ of my followers just went up 217%! Now we can get back to being smart. :-)”
Heh. I doubt he’s following his subscribers in any detail on a regular basis. No need to. But it was still a nice little compliment to those following, a good dig at those who couldn’t hack the pace and — when it’s all said and done — he’s got rid of the irrelevant arses.
I think this is a good idea.
If you’ve got thousands following you, maybe you should do a Scoble and do some Tweetflooding chat. Push reset and enjoy.
As for me I’m thoroughly enjoying Twitter now that I’m not being spammed with the 100% @reply bollocks that folk insist on dumping into my brain. I flicked that switch in the account section so I only get replies if I’ve subscribed to you. In which case I can easily follow the flow of discussion.
Right on!
