French government building a mobile portal

In a related note to my last post about the mobile web, it is interesting to note the following project that the French government is planning.

The website is in French, so you’ll have to trust my translation/paraphrasing, and it paints a vision where “the mobile Internet will enable citizens to receive and share information useful to carry out daily activities”.  They will realise this vision by building a portal, Proxima Mobile, to “bring together applications and services of general interest freely available on mobile phones connected to the internet”.  This portal will “make mobile internet the new tool to facilitate our daily lives”.

And they’re putting a 10m euro budget behind it as well.  If you’re a mobile content or app developer, you have until mid-September to make a submission.

Bon chance!

  • The UK Government has a mobile version of Direct.Gov.UK - http://m.direct.gov.uk - I think it's pretty swish.
