Help: American SMS text gateway service required (potentially UK too)

I had a note in from a regular reader asking who I recommend for the provision of outgoing SMS text messaging services in the United States (with the potential to add the UK as a destination later on). They’re after a good quality service with API — but they don’t need two-way, just outgoing. I […]

InfoBip launches new ‘Vanguard’ UK SMS service

I had a note from the guys over at InfoBip the other day about their new SMS offering. I spent an afternoon at the Global Messaging 2009 conference in London a little while back. Promising to ‘reverse the decline of messaging ARPUs’ and discussions on ‘strategies to grow messaging traffic and revenue’, the conference itself featured some big names from the likes of O2, IDC, MTN and Vodafone. But hang on a second, […]

Verizon and AT&T defend the indefensible (text charges)

Phil Goldstein of Fierce Wireless has posted a rather fair article about Verizon and AT&T’s text message costs. Charging 20 cents per text message, out of bundle, is still ridiculous, whatever way you look at it. And the defence that ‘most people buy in bundles so it’s ok’ doesn’t quite work.

I’ve had an email in from a long time reader who’s on the hunt for a better aggregator to use in Canada. Our aggregator […]

The US National Texting Champion is announced today

Are you a quick texter? I am, if it’s a Blackberry QWERTY keyboard. But on any other device, I’m just a bit better than an 86 year old grandmother who’s never ever touched a mobile phone before. So I didn’t enter the LG texting championships. The prize is a whopping $50k for the winner. LG […]

141,000 reasons why the UK mobile industry is nailed

I got the PhonePayPlus (the British Premium Rate regulator) newsletter in this morning. More dire reading. Another 141,000 pounds worth of fines. Here is just one sample of the ‘breaches upheld’ (or the areas of issue) for one company: Adequate Technical Quality, Fairness (Misleading), Inappropriate Promotion, Subscription Reminders Is this still where everyone’s making real […]
