Farmers in Uganda use SMS to update crop prices

Link: allAfrica.com: Uganda: Farmers’ Easy Ride On SMS Technology.

I enjoy reading stories such as this one.  I hope the medium is helping make a real difference for the Ugandan farmers:

NEW SMS technology is changing the face of Uganda’s business, helping farmers find out the real price of their crops and avoid being cheated by middlemen, all translate mobile markets into real benefits accrued from the current market dynamism.

Farmers use their cell phones to know within seconds the current price of maize and other crops at markets across the country, without using middlemen as price determinants other than the market forces demand and supply.
