What’s the best way of buying a phone today?

How did you buy your latest phone?...

MWC: What device highlights did you miss?

So, early last week I predicted that...

I’m naked today. NAKED I tell you!

I slammed the door to my place and walked three steps then cried out in pain. A lonely, regretful howl.

I’d left my Nokia E90 inside. I didn’t have the keys.

Arse.

Class-A ARSE, on many different levels.

Luckily I’ve got my trusty Vodafone Blackberry. However it’s on a data-only tariff, which means any calls or texts are charged at you-must-be-joking rate. 40p a minute, I think it is. Gahhhh.

I’m still connected. Got my email. I’m getting an inordinate amount of SpinVox messages today as a result. The biggest problem for me and SpinVox at the moment is that I don’t know who ‘Message from +44764646464’ is.

Normally if I’m on my mobile phone receiving SpinVox messages, they send the message from the originating MSISDN mobile number of the caller. So if I’ve got a message from, for argument’s sake, James Whatley, Social Media God at SpinVox (and SMS Text News contributor), it’ll appear as a text message from him in my inbox. Smart.

Utterly useless though, when I’m without my phone.

I really want SpinVox to implement some sort of address book look up thing. Telling me someone’s number is slightly helpful. I’d rather know their name, if they’re known to me.

Still, if I knew what the address was to download the SpinVox Blackberry client, I’d do so. I think this has the requisite function.

  1. Only marginally related but: just giving Spinvox a try for the first time – veeery useful. I'm liking it a lot!

  2. I tried that Whatley and it was rubbish! The website isn't formatted for the browser and it kept on asking me to confirm some security certificate! Couldn't see where to download the app. Help!

  3. FYI:

    1) Printed off this page this morning (plus comments) and passed to Head of Product.
    2) Head of Product agreed it was important to fix and arranged a meeting for this afternoon.
    3) Meeting went ahead as scheduled (I was in attendance).
    4) Agreed quick fix using user agent sniffers etc…
    5) Agreed http://www.spinvox.com/blackberry should know if you're coming from a blackberry
    6) Agreed new feature/bug fix will be put into next release schedule.
    7) Agreed review of current http://m.spinvox.com proposition
    8) Agreed SMS Text News Rocks.

Hoping to have this turned round soon – will update you as and when.
    Cheers for pointing it out.

  4. …so should every Spinvox subscriber expect this sort of top-class hands-on problem management?

<looks forward to his first Spinvox problem, so he can get some FIT-style love>

    😉
