Nokia calls off RIM partnership

Just as the spat with Qualcomm ends, Nokia has started another one. It really is just one big game of musical chairs for this company.

The Finish company has announced that it’s splitting up with RIM, the company behind BlackBerry, to go after the top spot in the business phone market.

I wonder if it used the line, “it’s not you, it’s me… I’m just not ready for this kind of commitment.”

According to Mobile, the Nokia E66 and E71will not have the BlackBerry Connect application when launched next week.

As Dirty Harry once said,

“So, I know what you’re thinking. Is it using Microsoft Exchange? You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya punk?”

Nokia’s UK MD, Simon Ainslie, told Mobile:

RIM are a competitor and have done a reasonable job in a space that is traditionally ours, so it’s no great surprise that we see this as an opportunity to give consumers a proper choice on what email solution they want.

‘Our approach is to make email a mass-market proposition for everybody, not just for the corporate boardroom group of individuals where BlackBerry has established itself.’
