The Original Mobile Industry Review Video Podcast

Good morning and welcome to our first video podcast. We’re trying something different this week, as per my post last night.

We take a look at Sagem, we discuss 3, we cast a glance toward the inevitable iPhone availability discussion, we discuss the Nokia Tube — and Dan and Ben get overrun by some testosterone-fueled normob hoodies (who aren’t, actually, wearing hoodies).

Do not miss the hoodie bit. The video is 23:30 long.

  1. Its good 🙂 Hope you got the relevant permits to film 😉 – One critque – Aside from getting a tripod, the 'background music' – bit too loud and – erm crap 😉

    K

  2. Oh… another thing.. maybe put a sticker on the camera just above or below the lens – it makes doing pieces to the camera easier as it gives something to focus on rather than looking around the the lens.

    K

  3. I wasn't meant to be in it 😉 but the two chaps bottled it and insisted…
    so I was in Friday-gear.

I don't think that elevator music is that bad. It helps cover the screaming
geese, who, despite the different levels we tried on the air mic, could
    *still* be heard.

  4. MacLeod “forgot” to bring the tripod because it was too heavy so we ended up filming in shakeycam! Hopefully next week will be better 🙂

The music does need to be a bit quieter!

  5. Well, the idea was that it was supposed to be an informal chat in the park with very few pieces directly into the camera. If I'm looking at a camera I generally tend to look straight into the big dark soul-capturing centre of the lens and think of HAL… dunno about the other guys though 😉

    Thanks for the feedback!

  6. More aimed my comment at Ben – but as looking down the abyss of the lense is a bit daunting a friendly sticker is usually easier.

Kip – The wannabe director 😉

  7. Pretty Good actually, apart from the first minute where I thought I was watching a video cast about by The Queen. Ha Ha
Classic Love Dan's Face when the teenagers come over!
Also @ Ben What is wrong with northerns? 😉

  8. Kip, Thanks for the tip… Have never been in front of the camera before, so really lacking any skills in that department at all!

Ewan surprised us with video blogging this one!

  9. Interesting, I didn't realise I frequented soho so often… but I appreciate that there aren't that many people who look like mr potato head dressed in combat gear.

  10. ha that was when i was almost caught up in the drama of iQueue day enough to attempt to join the queue – but it was already closed 🙁 lightweight!

  11. Ahh – no worries – it is very difficult to do because as well having the weirdness of staring down the lens – your eyes naturally move when you are thinking of stuff to say! Its a difficult skill to have! But great first Video Podcast!

  12. Love it, though if you're going to make it regular, we need a mobile-friendly version so I can get it on my Nokia Podcasting App. I'd love to offer any technical assistance in doing so, as I've got it mostly figured with Driving with the Guru (I only have to upload it once, too. 😉

  13. Hey Guys!
Great podcast… little long tho… most podcast should be 5 minutes or less…
I suggest maybe splitting this up into sections.
Not many users will watch the whole thing
    🙂

  14. i think this is definately the way forward – i never listen to tech podcasts – of the audio variety
but love video. where you can see devices, and the people involved.

maybe try somewhere more controlled next time – though the normob bit was the highlight.

hae you thought about asking nokia if you can interview them in the nokia store – theres various areas it could be done – they can preview new devices etc?

  15. Excellent job!

What did you shoot it with – the quality (video and sound) is outstanding!

The 'invasion of the Northern Normobs' was brilliant – it would be good to do more 'Joe in th Street' stuff. The look of fear on Ben's face was a gem – and the way Dan handled the interlopers was masterful.

Would you consider distribution via iTunes (so that I can get SMS Text News video podcast on my iPhone with minimal effort)?
