SMS Text News Podcast 16 (with Video) from Ewan MacLeod on Vimeo.
There’s always a moment of slight panic when you’ve uploaded a 168mb file and you’re waiting for Vimeo to show it. Did I upload the right one? Did I remove the ‘subtitle here’ white text? Published and be damned!
Here then, is the latest SMS Text News podcast — in video form. After last week’s request, we’re going to extract the audio and serve that on the podcast feed as normal. We’ll do this for last week’s video podcast too.
About the video
Several SMS Text News members were at the AQA (“Any Questions Answered”) summer party last Friday. We brought along the camera and produced the podcast and took advantage of the fact there were a lot of normobs (“normal mobile users”) in one place. And of course, we didn’t let the opportunity pass to grab AQA’s Marketing Director, Paul Cockerton. He always has some interesting insights. So much so that we’re going to publish an extended version of the interview featured in today’s podcast later this week.

Mobile Video
If you’re reading this on-the-go and you’d like to view the video, we’ve made a special 14.8mb file in 3gp format. That, theoretically, should work on most mobile handsets. Pick it up here.
Am I too early for the mini download link? It takes me to the site home page. I'll get the 165MB one from Vimeo for now.
David, did you want the 3gp link? I've added it in.
The 3gp link doesn't work for me: HTTP Status Code 301 Moved Permanently. Redirects to the front page.
I'm watching the Vimeo version on my phone now, great so far.
Brilliant Videocast!
But, did I hear Ben reference Wikipedia as an actual source of information?
I look forward to next weeks.
Samantha.
Let me try again, David, sorry!

So many outtakes!!.. I love how angry Ben sounds when he's correcting Louis!
Huge thanks to Paul and the AQA 63336 team for letting us climb all over their boat and bother their guests 🙂
Sorry David I missed out the word 'media' in the link 😉 Fixed it now
The visit was useful. Content was really very informative. From http://www.ahmedabadonnet.com
Love the Sony Ericsson news!
Go Ben and his confident smouldering down the camera lens ! 🙂
K
Guilty!
Kip, I owe it all to you. Still getting the feel for it… as long as it's not too painful to watch!
Problem is, editing the audio podcasts, I knew how they sounded before publishing. Ewan's doing the videos at the mo' so I'm left guessing like the rest of you. It would appear, incidentally, that nothing's scared from the bloopers…
Indeed. May need to go and talk to someone about that… Perhaps that's why I'm so popular in the office.
Indeed, fear that little red light!
Tis getting there mate! Its not easy but its sooooo much better than last time – I should get a credit 😉
Not sure if I'll be invited back..
enjoying the smstextnews podcast, http://tinyurl.com/65dadb the potential for chaos at FOM is both daunting and enticing.
Agreed – Paul and his team were very accommodating and very open to our intense questioning!
🙂
James. Of course you're welcome back. Do you remember the intense discussions that you were involved in later on in the night? We've had at least one request for your mobile number but there are somethings that AQA won't make public…
Good work. One point about battery life:
Back in the day, when I was living in North Wales, my Nokia N73 battery would last for days without needing a recharge. North Wales, being the backwoods kind of place it is, rarely provided me with 3G coverage.
When I was lucky enough to take a trip to the bustling metropolis that is Chester, complete with 3G magic throughout, my phone battery would last about a day.
So, yeah. Same phone, completely different battery life depending on 3G or not.
@danlane: sounds like we were smart to leave when we did 🙂

Very kind of you Sir… and really, all of the people I met there were lovely.
You should be proud to have such great staff.
Welcome to dish out my number – hang on – I'll just ask AQA to see if they know…
😉
..and yeah – some of those conflabs were a *bit* intense – but in a good way!
Honest!
Hahaha..
any chance you can get it to auto download into itunes like the podcasts do? I still prefer the podcasts as I cam listen to them on the move.
I think Ewan did a splendid job on the Sony Ericsson coverage, well done sir!
Brilliant – looking forward to the next one.
