Choosing a trophy for the MIR Awards 2008

Besides nominations for the Mobile Industry Review 2008 Awards, the other thing I’ve been looking at are trophies.

There’s a world of choice out there, especially if you’d like a cricket ball in a grasping hand, or a football (“soccer”) boot in motion. Or a medal.

I did for a moment drift off in a dream state thinking it would be rather cool to issue medals to winners. I gave that a good five minutes of joy before coming back to Earth. Our awards need to look good in the trophy cabinets of the winners.

11cm, 15cm or 20cm? Well, if in doubt, I’ve been picking the biggest. That’s how entrepreneurs do it, right? Buy the biggest.

And, er, get a discount.

I’ve ordered a few samples with the MOBILE INDUSTRY REVIEW logo engraved.

I was thinking silver. Then I moved to a bit of funky mahogany with silver. I looked at commissioning some sort of Motorola RAZR set into steel or the like — that would have been fun. And prohibitively expensive at 500 quid a pop. We’ve not been able to reach agreement with any potential sponsors ergo since it’s all being funded by yours truly, I’m taking a bit of a more direct approach.

I said to the chap it might be quicker — and definitely cheaper — BUYING 20 RAZRs and supergluing them a fancy stand. The chap was silent and didn’t ‘get me’.

I finally settled on glass. Then I’ve been sat pondering what kind of shape. A star? A weird half circular block?

Or, perhaps, does-what-it-says-on-the-tin (“simple”) rectangular shape?

I’d welcome your viewpoints.

  1. Just an idea- and agree with you on the price bit

I have seen quite a few of these in various shopping centres like Brent Cross and Trocadero where they take your photo and a few minutes later they give you a small Crystal with your photo inside, these cost about £20 for a 10cm x 5cm x 5cm
