See Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 panels running on an HTC Touch HD

Those guys over at coolsmartphone posted a few items of late from xda-developers.com, on having the panels from Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 run from a HTC Touch HD.

You may or may not be already aware the X1 was designed by HTC for Sony Ericsson and almost runs the same chipset and hardware. So a feat of this nature isn’t all that ground breaking really, but is still quite nifty.

Already been seen around for a while now is the footage of the HTC TouchFLO 3D UI running on the Xperia X1, which we’ve actually seen firsthand too.

Now the concept has come full circle and the reverse is here. Hurrah!

Seen in a video here, is the proof of concept from SprengUK which does come off looking rather good. Although still in beta, we’re sure it’ll be available soon from the forum thread here.

Just to show it is possible and can be done by mere muggles, the gents over at coolsmartphone have uploaded the necessary files to their own HTC Touch HD and run this out for themselves here.

Gone are the days of multiple fascias accompanying a phone, next you’ll have a choice of UIs instead. All without the need of wandering to various sites and download cooked ROMs to be installed.

If anyone’s brave enough to try this out, please do let us know how it all goes.
