Let’s kill ‘unlimited’ once and for all?

Ben Smith over at the all new Wireless Worker site makes a rather challenging point about the mobile data market:

We have a chance – let’s kill ‘unlimited’ once and for all

The word ‘unlimited’ has been abused too much and too long by telecoms companies to be rehabilitated. It should be killed off now we have a chance.

via Opinion: We have a chance – let’s kill ‘unlimited’ once and for all | Wireless Worker.

What do you think? I reckon he makes a very good set of points, particularly around defining related terms like ‘fair use’.

  1. Unlimited should mean unlimited, T Mobile were crucified when they tried to reduce their limits to reflect customer usage. Do you think all UK networks will work together on this? not a chance.

  2. They don’t have to – the ‘chance’ I’m referring to is a consultation by the body that regulates advertising… Check out the post – I’d love to capture views there so I can submit them to the process.

  3. I hate hearing the word. I’m one of the first to ask What’s the fair use policy, though vodafone uk advertise unlimited texts, and thats what we get. The FUP [fair use policy] of 3000 has been dropped. So I dont mind them using it. And I dont have to think about how many txts i send!!!
