This year will be the 10th anniversary of MEF’s networking party at Mobile World Congress. In 2002 (when Mobile World Congress was called “3GSM” and held in Cannes), MEF held its first “MEF Connects MWC” party, and every year since, the event has grown its well-deserved reputation amongst the mobile cognoscenti as the place to be seen after a busy day at Congress.
This year will be no exception with the exclusive MEF Connects MWC planned for the Monday night of Congress at The Picasso Museum in the heart of Barcelona’s Barri Gotic.
So how do you score a ticket? It’s open to MEF members and invited guests only, I’m afraid. You can, of course, get in touch with Rupen at MEF if you’d like to know more about the work and membership benefits of this brilliant trade association (rupen@mefmobile.org).
In 2002, mobile was a very different place. 3G had only just been rolled out and good old SMS was the primary source of revenue from data, which only accounted for 15-20% of mobile ARPU. MMS was just launching, with operators hammering out how best to harmonise on cross network picture messaging and the promise of mobile video was still some way off.
To mark its 10th anniversary, MEF is inviting responses to a poll on what you think has been the most significant development for mobile content and commerce in the past 10 years. Take part in the poll here. MEF will publish the results during Congress.
