What is classed as inactivity on a pay as you go (UK)?

I have a question for you the readers!  Does anyone know what each of the networks class as valid activity to keep a sim active? My Student Radio Station, recently had there Vodafone number cut off due to not topping up, and I want to ensure this does not happen again.

Do any of the UK  networks (including MVNO’s)  class reciveing a call or incoming sms as activity, and therefore will not cut you off?

  • The SMS gateway I use for my ping.fm and Livejournal services uses an Orange PAYG SIM that accepts text messages as a form of activity. It's a very old account though so the Ts & Cs on the newer cards may differ :(

it's had less than £1 worth of credit for at least 6 years now and hasn't made a call or sent an SMS in that time.

Im pretty sure on newer pay as you go sims you need to make a call or send a text every 90 days to keep the sim active.

@edcave Agreed, that is what I normally hear.

I do have a T-Mobile SIM that is still active, it has 5 quid left from last top-up in summer 2006. It has not received calls/sms as it is out of a handset. Before that top-up, the SIM was out of credit and unused for over a year

different companies have different rules and it is pretty much down to them.

This thing is well covered in T&Cs on their website regarding service.

Your account stay open for 3 months, after that it will just get soft blocked, all you will need to do is call us up and we will unblock it, the account never gets canceled for any customer, inbound calls are recomended as activity on the account.
