How did you break or lose your mobile?

Following on from yesterdays story revealing some of the silliest reasons for claiming on mobile phone insurance, Steve asked for a thread on “mad mobile loss/theft/etc stories”. So here we go. Shall we let him kick off proceedings?

Personally my favourite excuse for buying a new phone was that as I leant over the toilet a few years back my phone slipped from my jacket pocket and went straight down the pan!! mad but true!

Nice one Steve!

I’ve got a few to share.. I forgot that I’d left a UK Nokia in the safe at a hotel in New York a few years back, and on the off chance I popped in a few months later – and got it back. I’ve also left a phone on a train, then came back a few hours later to lost property and it’s been handed in.. and my favourite? I dropped a brand new handset in a hot steaming cup of tea in a Wimpy. I was proudly showing it off to someone, who passed it back across the table and it slipped as he was handing it to me. I’m not sure what’s most embarrasing – the incident or admitting to being in a Wimpy outlet.

Share your stories please – the best one will get a small mystery prize. If you’ve got pictures to go with your tales of woe, drop them on a mail to alex@smstextnews.com.

Let the fun commence 🙂

  1. Stepping into the confessional …

My ex and I were decorating the lounge and washing down the skirting board, and instead of picking up the scrubbing brush, he picked up his new Nokia 7650 and dunked that in the bucket instead …

My neice did an almost identical Steve and flushed hers down the loo after having it tucked in the back of her skirt in school …

I had a prototype Nokia 9500 (insured at over £500k eek) for a development project and while walking up the stairs with a cuppa managed to trip and jettison cup and phone over my head and on to the hallway floor below …

Poor old thing that phone, I was charging it off my desk on the floor and tripped a** over t*t and trod on it (again while going for a cuppa) …

But my favourite? More of a case of mistaken identity.

Being a developer, sometimes you use the same phones as your team members for basic testing and development – in this case, we all had Orange C600s. And by chance, guy X and I both had a particular ring tone on it.

Popped oop north for a “development meeting” with my co director (guy x)and after a very boozy and fun filled evening, we fell asleep in my hotel room.

Very early the next morning (around 7am), he popped in the shower, and I’m still dozing in bed, and my phone rings .. and with that husky post good night the night before voice uttered a purring “helloooo” …

And it was his wife …
