Revolut Mobile is £12.50/month for Unlimited everything

Revolut Mobile is £12.50/month for Unlimited everything

So, exciting times in the mobile world today as global banking giant ("the world's other local bank") Revolut introduces their mobile plans in the UK (and Poland), but let me look exclusively at what they're doing in the UK...

The detail makes for fascinating reading. I don't think you're going to be disappointed.

And this is saying something. The mobile world is littered with absolutely rubbish cut-and-paste offerings that aren't at all compelling.

M&S Mobile, anyone? ;-)

Right... Here is the cut-and-paste of the detail on Revolut's UK Mobile offering from their website:

About Revolut mobile plans
Revolut's prepaid mobile plans operate on a flexible monthly rolling contract, allowing for cancellation at any time. These mobile plans are eSIM-only, enabling straightforward activation. Your plan activates as soon as you complete your purchase and install your eSIM.
The introductory price for the unlimited plan is £12.50 per month. This introductory offer ends 23rd February 2026. If you join after this date, the plan will cost £14.99 a month.

So, £12.50 is very smart.

It's incredibly competitive.

Let me just check what Giffgaff or Smarty offer by comparison...

Ok... so Giffgaff's unlimited package is £35 per month. Smarty will give you unlimited for £18 per month.

Let's see what Revolut Mobile is offering:

Your plan allowance
Unlimited data in the UK
20GB data roaming in EEA/US
Unlimited calls and texts in the UK
50 minutes roaming calls (made while in EEA/US to EEA/US/UK)
50 minutes international long distance calls (made while in UK to EEA/US)
100 roaming/international text messages (sent while in EEA/US/UK to EEA/US/UK)

Ok so far so good. 20GB roaming is very good (Giffgaff offers 5GB, Smarty offers 12GB). Don't forget that if you were/are a Revolut Ultra customer, you already get a 3GB eSIM (Note: What happens to that if you're a mobile customer? I'll need to go and check).

Including the roaming minutes and text messages is also very good too.

Once you have a mobile plan with us, you can also find this information in app. If you've run out of data or you're traveling to a country not covered by your plan, you can buy a data plan through the app. Only data add-ons are currently offered.

I would hope that Revolut app use would always be available for this purpose, irrespective of your data allowance. I'm not sure if that's the case.

Plan features
100 Mbps max data speed
4G nationwide coverage + 5G
No throttle
Tethering included
Access to voice mail, call forwarding and VoWIFI

Some might get a bit exercised by the 100Mbs 'max' data speed here in the UK - whilst that could be frustrating for some, if you're finding yourself lucky enough to frequently get speeds well in advance of 100Mbps with your existing 'unlimited' mobile operator agreement, maybe you might want to think twice about Revolut Mobile.

For the rest of us though, the Revolut Mobile offer is looking highly, highly compelling.

Let's continue...

Get a random number or transfer in your existing number for free

So this is as per my expectation. I should be able to transfer my existing number into the Revolut Mobile programme easily. Nice.

Purchase a VIP number

Purchasing a VIP number is a really nice addition. You often see this internationally – I think this is a great feature to be offering in the UK.

Purchase up to 3 secondary numbers

Now, this is nice. So you can add 3 additional numbers? I like the sound of that. Could I have a US number and a UAE number? ;-) Probably not. I would imagine this is just 3 secondary UK numbers but still, really smart, especially if you'd like multiple numbers for different things.

Access to NordVPN

I already have this thanks to my Revolut Ultra subscription but this is eminently compelling ON ITS OWN. So you get NordVPN included? No brainer.

and Messaging Pass
If you're outside the EEA and US you can stay in touch with Messaging Pass in 100+ countries. This allowance lets you use data with restricted bandwidth for messaging and other apps, so you're always connected abroad. Data limits apply.

This is where you can see compelling evidence that the Revolut Mobile product team are switched on geniuses.

So, you get 'Messaging Pass' included? Just to be clear – and I think it is worth spelling this out – it means that wherever you are on the planet (in 100+ countries, anyway), you can ALWAYS use WhatsApp/etc to stay connected.

This on its own is something I am paying £5 a month for with Honest Mobile's Smart SIM service.

The copy finishes with:

These features may be revised periodically, so check the app for the most up-to-date list of countries, plans, features, and fees.

I'd imagine they'll be adding more interesting features as time goes on...

Revolut's UK mobile partner
UK mobile plans are provided by Gigs. Payments are collected by Revolut Ltd on behalf of Gigs. Revolut is an agent for Gigs. You'll accept both Revolut and Gigs terms to start using UK mobile plans.

Good news for the team at Gigs! (You can see their coordinated announcement here.) Note that this is different from the 1GLOBAL vendor behind Revolut's existing eSIM offering. It looks like 1GBLOAL is powering the Poland launch.

So, even at £14.99, I don't think you can beat this in the UK market.

I promised myself I would look really warmly at anything Revolut brought to market in this space and, if possible, adopt it.

You see, I've been writing for decades - literal decades (started here in Jan 2006) - about this. See my April Fools years ago about HSBC Buying 3UK, for example. I've long believed that these kind of utility services should be managed by your bank. I've looked incredibly closely at this when I've been a Group Chief Digital or Chief Transformation Officer at various banks too.

I think this kind of offering deserves to be supported.

It's one of the reasons I'm also a Revolut Ultra subscriber: The combination of offerings is simply fantastic. (It was the inclusion of the FT subscription that sold it for me).

Right now, I'm using a £15/month unlimited Giffgaff '18 month contract' so the Revolut offering is 1 penny cheaper.

Giffgaff - everyone - you're going to need to up your game.

For many, just getting access to NordVPN will be a no-brainer. And the Messaging Pass? Genius.

I decided to go and show you some screenshots of the offering and I was about to try and subscribe...

But I can't find any mention of it in the app.

Now I was ... or I thought I was... on the waitlist. I thought I was one of the first!

Maybe because I'm an Ultra customer, it's not prioritising me in the first instance? I couldn't find any mention of Revolut Mobile on the current app (I downloaded the latest version earlier today).

So, big fan here. Big fan of what you're doing Revolut! I'll be patient!

Take note, banks. Take note. This is how you align to your customers even more.
