Smashed iPhone update: Tried the local shop... excellent
Screenshot of the Spigen screen protector I added to my son's phone

So an update, dear reader, on the smashed iPhone post.

Thank you to everyone who emailed with recommendations, especially Steve for inviting me to use his name for a great place he suggested in London. Alas, Steve, my customers (wife, son) determined that something had to be done immediately.

They couldn't wait for me to take the phone to London and get it repaired there.

So I opted for the local repair shop. In this case, one of the iTech branches.

Here's how things went:

  1. I walked in and enquired about the cost of a screen replacement.
  2. The chap immediately identified the iPhone version from sight and reported the cost at £65. (So a penny more than the website!)
  3. We didn't get any options - e.g. 'pay this, for a better quality that', which kept things nice and simple.
  4. "I'll be done in about an hour," the chap said.
  5. I handed over the iPhone then walked around the town centre for an hour.
  6. Boom, fixed.
  7. I paid with a tap and the iPhone is essentially as good as new. No concerns about screen quality or the like.
  8. My son is delighted. Wife too.

Seamless and highly satisfactory.

The Spigen screen protector arrived a few hours later courtesy of Amazon, and I immediately applied it!
