Google has the right to log texts sent? Well. Duh.

I’ve read a few articles recently about the Google "Send-to-SMS" function that they recently released on their new Toolbar.  These articles are far too alarmist I think.  They exclaim to the world that Google may log the text of the message that you send.  No biggie, surely?  It’s a free service.  In fact if they’re running any proper database, it should all automatically be entered and logged into a table somewhere.

Every other public text service on the planet will log the texts.  It’s not a case of ‘logging’ them, it’s case of capturing the text from the user, putting it into a database and then transmitting the text out to the SMSC and marking that record as ‘sent’.  Google hasn’t hidden anything at all. It’s all there in the terms & conditions.  I’m willing to bet that every other ‘send free texts’ service, and their dog, does the same.

No need to jump on Google about it.

Anyway, if you’ve got something extremely confidential to say, say it in person or transmit it via your own handset (which is hardly secure, eh).
