SMS vs Email – a look at the debate

SMS vs. mobile email: Which is the ‘killer app’?
.

Which is the killer app? Email. That is the killer app. Text messaging is the poor half brother to mobile email. Check out Kathryn’s comment:

Kathryn Weldon, an analyst with Current Analysis, said there are several obvious reasons why SMS is a more attractive alternative for mobile communication. One driver for SMS is its availability on pretty much every cell phone sold — high end or low.

I think the ONLY driver for SMS is its availability on every phone.

If, overnight, we replaced every handset in the world with Blackberry style push email in place of text messaging, what user would have an issue?

And what user would pay 12 pence an email? 😉 Not one.

(Clearly there would be a slight issue with the huge mobile billing industry that’s grown up around premium text messaging)
