One third of Aussies are ‘SMS snoops’

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Virgin Mobile Australia’s marketing team have knocked out a study on text messaging, reports TVNZ.

The online survey, conducted for telecoms service provider Virgin Mobile Australia, shows that women are more likely than men to check their partner’s phone in secret.

It also revealed that 73% of these sneaky text checkers have found out things they later wished they hadn’t, and 10% ended their relationship because of the snooping.

“In a society when we very rarely let our mobile phones out of our sight, it’s quite amazing to think that for a lot of us the minute we jump in the shower, someone might be checking up on us,” Virgin Mobile’s Amber Morris said in a statement.

There’s a chap I know — an industry heavyweight — shortly heading to Australia. I’ll need to write him a note to warn him about these ’sneaky’ Australian woman.

Although I’m sure it’s the same the world over, right?

When did you last check your partner’s text messages?

FIRST it was mobiles for nothing, now it’s laptops for free, as telcos try to lure customers into their often-expensive 3G mobile data plans.

Telstra is offering a zero-dollar laptop to the value of $700 to business customers signing up for a three-year contract on the telco’s Next G mobile data service. But as with $0 phones, there is a catch.

The major catch is that the next gig of data will cost you $250…. Arse.
