Link: MediaGuardian.co.uk | New media | HSBC to launch bank service on a mobile.
HSBC and its First Direct offshoot yesterday became the first banks to sign up to a new service that allows customers to check their bank balance, receive mini-statements and top up their pre-pay call time using their mobile phones.
Pretty nifty. I’d use it. Just, I can’t find any details whatsoever on the HSBC site about it. Perhaps you have to login? I’ll check later on.
Just to clarify – When the service goes live later this year, Customers will be able to register via the Bank’s website or via their mobile handset.

Hello,
My name is Kavita Rambhajan and I currently work in Trinidad and Tobago for a company called Cellular Planet Ltd. We partner with the major mobile carrier here, namely The Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT). We are currently in the process of researching various mobile technology possibilities and came across MoniLink.
We found the technology to be very exciting and interesting and thought it would be very successful if implemented in Trinidad and Tobago. Right now this country has a flourishing cell phone industry and we are looking for ways to enhance our current mobile technology. If given the opportunity to successfully implement this technology here, we hope to eventually spread it across the Caribbean.
Please contact us, if any possibilities exist, so that we can determine what we need to get started.
We look forward to working with you. Thank you.
The service is live now – needs to d/l a small java applet to the mobile phone (and not ALL phones work). Registration and D/l is free but balance requests are charged at around 25p each, so maybe only good in emergencies, or when the branches are closed and its cold and raining by the ATM!
