O2 changes Ts&Cs to allow call data sharing | The Register
O2 has changed its terms and conditions to allow it to share “…the date, duration, time and cost of such communications and the location of your mobile phone”.
O2 will be sharing this information with credit companies, other telecommunications companies, and debt collectors “…for the purposes of operating your account and providing you with the service…in addition to crime prevention and fraud detection”.
Another interesting one on The Register this morning. I’m not sure how I react to this. I really don’t like the idea of my data effectively being made publicly available to anyone o2 deems appropriate. However privacy is a total myth in this technical world we live in, trying to campaign against it… well, I just don’t know how effective that would be.
I don’t like this at all. I think that it is a major blow to civil liberties and if the press get wind of it, it will be a very big story.
O2 are not the government and should not be allowed to tell people where we are. Can you imagine what weirdo’s, pedo’s and general nutters could do with this type of info on tap.
I’m totally against it and will change my O2 account of 10 years if I’m made to sign this…
I wonder what the status is with other mobile operators? It’s a little spooky knowing that your operator knows exactly where your phone has been, precisely — to say, 20 feet — for the last X years.
I think it’s optimistic to think you’ll have to sign something – just reading the T & C’s means you accept them, according to the O2 site. Use for crime prevention is commendable, but to just start sharing customers’ info with credit companies is plain naughty. Did they send notification out to their subscribers, I wonder?
