Radio1 using their unified shortcode for MMS

Radio1

I was listening to the radio last night and caught a bit of Colin Murray for a few moments whie sat in the Chinese waiting for my egg fried rice. (I was keeping it simple, no sweet & sour chicken).

DJ Colin was giving their 81199 shortcode a big workout explaining that you can now send in picture messages as well as text messages — and how easy it is.

You know what? This should have been done years ago. The moment the networks released picture messaging, they should have made sure that Radio1 and other big media outlets had the facility to receive — to help build consumer demand for new handsets, contracts and additional services.

Here we are — what, 3 years later? — and Radio1 is finally able to push the medium. They were doing a good job of it too. Have a look at the pictures they’ve been sent in!

See! Demand is there! Consumers are using picture messaging. You just gotta make it cheap, easy and reliable. I think we’re almost there.
