RESEARCH: SMS Text News blogger to go Speed Dating this Friday

Come rain, come snow, come speed dating, the SMS Text News team (that’s me) continuously strive to go beyond the average blog. To take you to places where others just wouldn’t dare.

NO STONE is left uncovered.

NO OPERATOR goes uncriticised.

No ARSE goes unmentioned.

No speed networking evening goes unattended.

Yes, I’m taking you speed networking!

This Friday.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to dress up. A friend-of-a-friend is arranging a speed networking evening. She does these things regularly apparently and my friend (Mr X) invited me along. I would shop him to you all but his company is in ultra deep deep blackops below the radar mode.

So I’ll be the arse in the corner wearing a totally wideboy HUGE can’t-miss-it black and white pinstripe whilst my friend stands there in jeans and a t-shirt. Apparently dress is relaxed, you see, but I have goodness knows how many meetings in the city on Friday so I’ll be dressed a la city.

Anyway, the reason this merits a mention is because my mobile radar will be on full operation come Friday night. Overdrive. I’m going to do a heck of a lot of straw-polling to see what everyone’s using. That should be quite exciting. Given the opportunity, I’ll take a lot of photos.

I’m wondering if we have to sit at tables and do a 3-minute thing….

Hi I’m Ewan.

‘Hi I’m Caroline, What do you do, Ewan?’

Well, quite a lot of things. For example, I run a mobile blog.

‘A what? What’s a blog?’

NEXT!

Bing. Change places.

Hi I’m Ewan.

‘Hi Ewan, my name is Melanie, what do………’

Let me stop you there Melanie…

‘Sorry?’

Is that a Nokia 3330 in your handbag I can see?

‘Yes actually?’

Have you had your main phone recently stolen?

‘No? Why… what do you..’

Are you telling me you’re seriously using a Nokia 3330 as your main handset?

‘Well yes, but what do…’

NEXT!

Bing! Change places.

Hi I’m Ewan.

‘Hi, I’m Fiona, what do you do Ewan?’

Well, a number of things — principally, I do a lot of work in mobile.

‘Oh, maybe you could help me actually?’

Sure, sure, what’s your issue?

‘Well, I’ve been having trouble with my Fresh Mobile, you see…

NEXT!

I’m not sure if you’re allowed to yell ‘NEXT’ at the top of your voice.

We’ll see. Should be fun. I’ll be reporting on all the handsets on show, plus I’ll be noting just how the handsets are being used across the evening.

You heard it here first.

Any speed networking tips, don’t hesitate to liberally bestow here in the comments. No jokes about Gigabit Ethernet though.
