Phones4U recommendations winding up my brother

Got this text message yesterday from my brother:

I’m in Phones4U. The customer next to me spends 20 a week on Vodafone, so they’ve suggested putting her on a 70 a month tariff and charged her for a shit Nokia. But if her partner also takes out a phone, then they will get the handset free. What a load of shit.

Isn’t that annoying, when you’re in a phone shop and you overhear someone getting what you perceive to be less than stellar advice?

Sometimes I cna’t help it and I will interrupt and actually suggest alternatives 😉 It’s not good though, when you find that you seem to know more than the sales person does.

Have you ever experienced this?

  1. Yes. All the freaking time.

I had these clowns (http://www.clubmobile.co.uk) call me on friday.

Wait – so I can trade my £37.50 W&W tariff for a £40 pound tariff with no data, 30 more minutes of use and 50 extra text messages AND get a brand new 3G phone WITH 20 minutes of video calling?

really? How did you get my number? Take me off your list – now.

I’ve had ‘words’ with a Vodafone rep regarding the difference between a SIM and a USIM. The words were short and condescending – and that was before I had the opportunity to speak.

Remember folks, its not about getting the right contract / handset for your customer, it’s about earning your commission!

  2. More times than I care to mention.

Sometimes – when I’m bored of a lunchtime – I might take a wander in there (P4U) and see what drivel their sales guys/gals are going to try to feed me…

  3. I’d agree. Like James, sometimes i’ve had enough of the Delboy Trotter style of selling in P4U and the lack of knowledge i come across in Carphone Warehouse so i take 2 mins out to go and ask annoying geek level details about their latest phones and tarrifs to test the waters and flumux the sales assistant… I think they hate me, but at least i feel a certain level of retribution 😉
